The University tennis tournament, which progressed yesterday through the fifth round, promises to bring forth today and tomorrow matches which should be as brilliant as have ever been recorded in the annals of tennis history at Harvard.
Harada, Japanese Davis Cup player, has already worked his way into the semi-final round, defeating R. J. Kunkel by a 6-1, 6-2 margin. The match was much closer than the score seems to indicate, although the outcome was never in doubt. Tomorrow Harada will meet the winner of the match between Coleman and Wheeler.
One of the surprises afforded by yesterday's play was the stiff resistance offered by Bandler in his encounter with Coleman, the latter finally coming out a victor after three gruelling sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. The other survivors in the tournament are Davies, Whitbeck, P. C. Kunkel, Briggs, and McCarthy.
The doubles tournament continued through the second round without any upsets. Wheeler and Davies disposed of Smith and Debevoise, 6-1, 6-0, and proved conclusively they are strong contenders for the title.
