RING DOWN CURTAIN ON FALL BASEBALL PRACTICE

FALL DAILY ATTENDANCE WELL OVER THE 30 MARK

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Coach Fred Mitchell told a CRIMSON reporter yesterday that he looked upon the fall practice, which officially closed closed Tuesday, as the most successful in recent years. The deceptive fair weather of last week had held out hopes for another week of practice, but Monday's game was played under such bad weather conditions that Coaches Mitchell and Davidson reluctantly agreed to drop the curtain on baseball for the year.

30 Men Reported Daily

Coach Mitchell's optimism over the showing made by the squad is well warranted by the average of well over 30 men who reported each day. The practice games were made very close by the custom of giving the better pitcher to the poorer team. Most of the players came with experience on either last year's second nine or the 1927 outfit, but several new players of some little promise were discovered.

Among the candidates who showed up to best advantage were: catchers, I. R. Duchin '27, H. L. de Rham '27, J. D. Cotter '26; pitchers, J. E. Toulmin '25, R. H. Booth Jr. '27, C. P. Clifford '27, H. G. Phelps '27, D. G. Casto '26, G. McN. Gates '27; first basemen, R. H. Field '26, W. P. Ellison '27; second basemen, Philip Keene '25, B. M. Rice '25; shortstops, Willard Howard '27, C. S. Gross '27, J. B. Dacey '26; third basemen, H. E. Slayton Jr. '26, C. O. Erickson '27, Butler Cox 27; outfielders, C. L. Todd Jr. '26, M. F. Amsden '25, G. W. Burgess '25, R. T. Flood '27, J. B. Durant '27, E. W. Fay '26.

Plan for Battery Drill

Coach Mitchell is already planning for the battery workouts which will begin shortly after Christmas. He will be in daily attendance himself and he will probably have the assistance almost every day of Head Coach E. W. Mahan '16, in his day one of the greatest of college pitchers.
