Dean LeB. R. Briggs '75, expressed a favorable opinion on probation, saying that "it is a good thing, because the period preceding the November hour examinations is a short one for so important a decision."
"And also", continued Dean Briggs, "because there is more hook in an hour examination than in a three-hour examination.
When asked why the rule had been made only for upperclassmen, and not for Freshmen, Dean Briggs said. "As I understand in Freshmen are watched more closely, and warning may be given them before the examinations, and also it is more important that Freshmen should know their standing early."
