According to figures recently compiled by the department of physical education at the University, tennis, crew, and football are the most popular fall sports among the class of 1928.
Each Freshman student is required to take at least three hours of exercise weekly throughout the year. In the fall he is allowed to take any of the following forms of exercise: football, crew, soccer, cross-country, track, lacrosse, tennis, handball, equitation, and swimming.
One Fifth of Class Chose Tennis
According to C. B. Van Wyck, athletic recorder for the University, 854 Freshmen out of a class of 950 have already signed up. Of these 217, more than one-fifth of the class, have chosen tennis as their form of exercise. Crew has attracted 162 men, besides 71 who have elected to row in single shells. Football has claimed 135 men, and lacrosse is on the short end, only four Freshmen candidates having reported so far.
The complete list is as follows: tennis 217, crew 162, football 135, equitation 83, single sculls 71, track 71, swimming 37, soccer 24, lacrosse 4, special 24, total 854.
