It took the Freshman hockey team until the second period to regain the fighting spirit which it showed in the contest with Andover last Saturday and to down the Newton High School sextet, 6-2, yesterday afternoon in the Boston Arena.
The Crimson first year men were slightly off their game. The first period was slow and tedious. There was no unison in the forward line, the defence was poor, and Flood had more than his share of work in guarding the goal.
Newton High made the first score. Holbrook and Stubbs brought the puck up from a scrimmage near their own goal through the Crimson defence. Flood was unable to stop the close shot which followed.
Freshmen Tie Score
The Freshmen were not long in tying the score, however, and soon afterwards added another point to the total. But before time was up the high school team had evened the tally.
In the remaining periods the Freshmen scored four times and kept their opponents from making further advances. The play was considerably more lively than earlier in the contest and in general somewhat improved. But the teamwork which has characterized the last few games was noticeably lacking.
The summary: Score, Harvard Freshman 6, Newton High School 2. Goals, Coady 3, Burnett, Gross, Hamlen, Holbrook, Spain. Time, three 12-minute periods. Referee, Harley.
