The Peabody Museum has received an important addition to its Asiatic collections in a group of 221 pieces from the Goldi tribe in eastern central China. This collection was made about 20 years ago, and has just come to the Museum from Germany, where it has been kept since that time.
Included in the collection are garments, weapons, idols, fetishes, and other utensils, the whole giving a picture highly representative of the life of the tribe. Several women's dresses made of fish-skins and decorated with skillful applique work are perhaps the most interesting pieces of all.
Together with the remainder of the Peabody Museum's Asiatic collection, these new acquisitions will go into storage until it is possible to purchase showcases for their exhibition.
