PREDICTS OVERTHROW OF GERMAN REPUBLIC

Monarchist Revolution Is Imminent Says Professor Lord--Present Government Discredited by Ruhr Failure

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"There is danger of an overturn in Germany at any time this winter", said Associate Professor Robert H. Lord '06, when interviewed by a CRIMSON reporter yesterday. "The republic is not considered a success.

"The revolution may come from either the right or left wing," he went on, "but the probability is that it will come from the Monarchist party, which seems to be constantly growing in strength at the present moment. In Munich last summer the streets were constantly placarded with signs advocating and predicting the return of the royal house and the beginning of a war of revenge against France. It is true, on the other hand, that nothing that has happened since the armistice has so depressed the Germans as their defeat in the 'war of 1923' or the Rhine and Ruhr war.

"Food conditions in Germany were acute even when I was over there last summer," said Professor Lord. "In Munich and Berlin even then it was a common sight to see crowds camping out all night in front of the butcher shops. The general feeling is that starvation is certain this winter. Conditions become worse every week. And of course the financial status of the country is ludicrous.

Associate Trouble With Republic

"All these troubles are associated in Touton minds with the Republic, which has become increasingly unpopular. Nor has it been able to keep order. A monarchy, either of the Hohenzollerns or of the rival Bavarian House of Wittelsbach, is again very much talked of.

"To my mind it would be the best thing for Germany if the League of Nations should undertake her financial rehabilitation, as it has already done for Austria and is about to do for Hungary. The League might posibly be able to overcome France's objections by offering security for Germany's behavior and future payment."

Professor Lord concluded by saying that the worst feature of Germany's condition is the psychological feeling of discouragement. In Russia the feeling is that the worst is over and the country on the road to prosperity.
