EXPECT LARGE ENROLLMENT

Captain Clark Anticipates Registration of 75 to 100 for Equitation

Between 75 and 100 men are expected to enroll in the course of Equitation offered by the department of Military Science, it was learned today from Captain S. F. Clark, who is in charge of Equitation this year.

Every man who has enrolled for Equitation is required to ride for two ninety minute periods each week. These periods will come at 1.45 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and on Monday and Wednesday at 3.15. Men who are to ride will be given an opportunity to elect any two of these periods at an early section meeting of Military Science I These men should also apply to the supply sergeant in the basement of George Smith Hall before 5 o'clock tomorrow to obtain riding equipment.

Fifty-five riding horses are now maintained by the Military Science Department at the stables on Soldiers Field. Of these, twenty-two are polo ponies. Captain Clark hopes to start polo practice early in the fall for the more advanced groups in Equitation. At present, however, he is greatly handicapped by a lack of adequate facilities. Although the War Department has supplied all necessary polo equipment, it is still impossible to find any suitable field for practice during the fall and spring, or any indoor riding hall for regular use during the winter. Captain Clark pointed out that both Yale and Princeton have well-equipped riding halls and polo grounds and that unless the University team can obtain similar accommodations it will be at a marked disadvantage at the annual polo intercollegiates next spring.
