FOUR COMPETITIONS FOR CRIMSON START TONIGHT

News, Business, and Photographic Open to Sophomores, Editorial to Juniors--All Scheduled for 7

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The CRIMSON will open four competitions tonight when candidates for all departments will meet in the Crimson Building at 7 o'clock. Only Sophomores are eligible for the news, business, and photographic competitions, and none but Juniors many enter that for editorial writers.

The first three will all last 11 weeks, terminating in the neighborhood of December 10. The final verdict on the surviving editorial candidates will not be given for 13 weeks, however, which will be early in January.

At the meeting tonight Sophomore candidates will not need to decide which competition they will enter until after the President has explained the various types of work and the character of the competitions in general. The candidates will next separate into four groups, which will be addressed by the Managing Editor, the Business Manager, and the Editorial and Photographic Chairmen, respectively. These department heads will then explain the details of the competitions and the system on which they will be conducted.

Although it has been apparent that most candidates come out for the CRIMSON because it is the undergraduate activity which appeals to them the most, editors of the paper feel that the experience and information acquired through connection with the paper is also of no little value.

All departments of the Crimson offer editors opportunities for promotion, and the higher offices afford valuable executive training. Work in each department also provides the candidate with a chance to improve his ability in writing, photography, or business. In the department last named candidates will make numerous acquaintances with Boston and New York advertisers which should prove profitable if they intend to engage in business near these eities.
