NINE AGAIN FACES HOLY CROSS TEST

At 10 o'clock this morning, the University baseball team will leave the South Station for Worcester, where it will undergo a severe test in a second contest with the Holy Cross nine. The game, which was scheduled to start at 2, will be delayed until 3.15 o'clock.

To work his team into the best possible condition, Coach Slattery gave his men a rest on Thursday, and yesterday the cold weather compelled the squad to lay off another day. With Young on the mound, and with all its members in perfect condition, the nine should be in top form.

It faces an opponent, however, that in three successive games has shown itself slightly superior. On May 2 this year, a pitching feud ended with a 1 to 0 Holy Cross victory, while the Purple over-came the University twice last spring, the final score in each case being 2 to 1.

Moreover, the Crimson faces a greatly improved Holy Cross combination. Since May 2, the batting of the team has developed rapidly, as was demonstrated in a 24 to 1 victory over Springfield, a 21 to 0 victory over Connecticut Agricultural College, and a 16 to 4 victory over Tufts last Wednesday. Villanoa and Lehigh also succumbed by large scores. Fordham offered a stiffer opposition, finally falling before superior fielding by a 2 to 0 count. A 5 to 0 victory over Yale was followed by victories over the Crescent Athletic Club, Tufts, the University of Pennsylvania, Boston College, and Georgetown.

The one defeat of the season came on April 25 when Princeton batted its way to a 1 to 0 victory in a thrilling contest in which both teams fielded perfectly.

Carroll will again start on the mound for Holy Cross, with Tunney and Burke as relief pitchers, while Herrmann will be held in reserve for the University.
