The Harvard Engineering Camp at Squam Lake, N. H. will open on Saturday, June 16 and will last eight weeks, closing on August 10. So far 31 men have registered but it is probable that the number will be increased before the opening date. The course, which counts as one point towards the degree of A.B. or S.B., is under the direction of Dean Hughes, but Mr. Albert Haertlein '16 will have direct supervision of the instruction and Mr. C. H. Paige Ag. '02 will act as camp supervisor.
The work will be mostly of practical nature but hour lectures will be held every morning in which the day's problems will be explained. The field work in the first half of the course will consist of plane and topographical surveying, levelling, determination of meridian and latitude, and map making, while in the last four weeks problems in railroad construction will be taken up involving preliminary surveys, final location, slope staking, and estimates of quantities and cost.
A half-hour test will be held at 7 o'clock every morning on the text book assignments for the day, and after an hour's lecture at 8 o'clock the students will work in the field until 4 o'clock. The week's work will end at noon on Saturdays and men in good standing will be granted leave of absence from the camp until Sunday night.
