Red Top, Conn., June 6.--All the Crimson crews were given a stiff work-out on the Thames today in spite of the intense heat that was encountered. At a meeting of the chairmen of the regatta committees, coaches, captains and managers of the respective crews this afternoon, it was definitely decided to row the Freshman race at 9.45 o'clock and to start the second University a half hour later at 10.15 o'clock, Eastern standard time. Both of these races will be rowed upstream while the first University crews will row downstream at 6 o'clock in the evening.
This morning the first University crew went down to the Submarine Base and back at an easy paddle. The Freshman had the hardest of the morning work-outs as they covered the same distance at a brisk pace set by Coach Haines in the power launch.
In the afternoon the first University eight received the longest paddle covering the four mile course, being paced the first two by the second University and the remaining two miles by the Combination eight.
