Eleven British and Canadian professors of English visited Cambridge yesterday afternoon and were the guests of the University at a luncheon in the Union at 2.45 o'clock. The visitors came on yesterday morning from New York, where they had been delegates to the Conference of British and American Professors of English held last week at Columbia.
President Lowell presided at the luncheon and three members of the English Department served on the reception committee: Professor G. L. Kittredge '82, Professor F. N. Robinson '91, and Mr. T. L. Hood '08. During the afternoon the guests were shown various points of interest about the University and were entertained at tea in the Widener Library. Later in the day they were conducted to M. I. T., and in the evening were dined at the Engineers' Club in Boston.
Most of the visiting professors are leaving America very shortly, but many will remain to teach at the summer sessions of various colleges in this country. Among the latter will be Professor R. W. Bond of Nottingham University College who, although still in New York, will soon arrive in Cambridge to give courses in English at the University Summer School. Professor F. S. Boas, who is President of the English Branch of the Association, will teach at the University of Chicago, and Professor H. J. C. Grierson of Edinburgh University at Cornell. Professor A. E. Morgan of the University College at Exeter and Professor A. W. Reed of Kings College at London are both scheduled to be at Columbia this summer.
Approximately 225 British and American delegates attended the convention in New York, which lasted for three days and was featured by several banquets and fours.
