UNBEATEN ANDOVER TEAM MEETS SECONDS TODAY

Crippled University Nine Has Not Been Successful in Its Three Games--Andover has Defeated Yale Freshman

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University second baseball team faces the undefeated Andover nine at Andover today with a line-up greatly altered because of injuries suffered in the game with Dean Academy last Monday. Fitton has not yet recovered from the blow he received on the mouth from a ball that bounced poorly for him, and Hoffman's knee has stiffened as the result of a foul tip which struck him on the knee-cap. Gardner, who has substituted several times already this year, will start at third, and Chipman will be behind the bat.

The seconds have been entirely unsuccessful so far this season, losing two of their three games to Exeter and Dean, and tying the third with St. John's. Their weak spot has been in the pitching staff, but this has been bolstered up by the acquisition of Toulmin from the regulars. He will probably start the game on the mound, with Burns held in reserve for a relief pitcher. The seconds had a light practice game yesterday, in order to give this new combination an opportunity to get used to working together.

Andover Has Won Four Games

The Andover Academy nine has only played four games, but it has found little trouble in defeating all its opponents by overwhelming margins. In the first contest of the season against Middlesex, the Blue batted their way to a 10 to 3 victory, and a little later, they sent Wentworth Institute down to defeat by the score to 6 to 0. Huntington offered even less resistance, finally succumbing by the score of 17 to 1. The real proof of Andover's strength, however lies in her victory over the Yale seconds last Saturday. Shoop, the Andover pitcher, held his opponents to no hits until, in the last of the ninth, with two outs and two strikes, he permitted Jenkins to bat out a home run which brought in another man ahead of him, making the final score 8 to 2. With nine veterans, three of whom are pitchers, the Andover team has a combination that is difficult to beat.
