Playing an errorless game, the University baseball team triumphed over the Brown nine by a 5 to 0 score in Providence yesterday avenging last year's defeat at the hands of the Bear combination. The advantage lay with the Crimson players from the start and their less powerful opponents showed but few threats of scoring. Young, on the mound for the University, allowed only four scattered hits while six were collected off Neubauer, three of them being doubles. Owens and Young both drove out home runs.
The University opened up in the first inning when Buell was walked and advanced to third on Thayer's two-base hit. Buell, however, was caught off third, and Neubauer steadied and retired the next two men on strike-outs. Thereafter affairs quieted down and nothing further happened until the fourth inning, when Hammond was walked, and advanced to second on F.S. Hill's sacrifice. Keegan filed out to the catcher and it looked as if another inactive inning was about to be brought to a close. At this point, however, Young stepped into a fast delivery of Neubauer's and lifted it almost out of sight for a home run, giving the Crimson a lead which was never once threatened.
The remaining three runs were brought in the ninth. Young started off strongly with a clean two-base hit and was advanced to third when Buell hit safely. The next two men were disposed of in short order and then Owen put the finishing touch on the game by smashing, out a terrific drive that netted an easy home run. Hammond's weak liner to short stop retired the side.
