In addition to speeches by Dr. A. T. Davison '06 and the retiring officers of the University Glee Club at its annual dinner at the Harvard Club of Boston last night, President Eliot in a brief address explained the urgency of bringing up the youth of America in the enjoyment of music. He also declared that "We shall never get things right in industry until we have more of the cooperative discipline which men learn from practising in a chorus or orchestra."
In response to his request the Glee Club then sang several numbers from its concert programs of this year.
After the dinner the following officers were elected as well as 53 new members:
President, Alexander Mackay-Smith '24 of Washington, Conn.; vice-president, James Lloyd Berrall '24 of Washington, D. C.; secretary, Ernest Frederic Knauth Jr. '24 of Brooklyn, N Y. At the same time the following officers were appointed: Manager, Trevanion Dallas Blair-Smith '24 of Englewood, N. J.; assistant manager, Dexter Selden Paine '25 of Brookline; librarian, Leicester Haydon Sherrill '26 of Philadelphia, Pa.
