INFORMAL TRIALS PREPARE RUNNERS FOR M. I. T. MEET

Yesterday afternoon several informal trials were held to determine the men who will run Saturday in the University track meet with M. I. T. and the Freshman meet with Exeter at Exeter. There will be additional tests today and tomorrow for both squads, before the coaches will announce the final list of those who will participate in Saturday's events.

Technology will bring a strong squad to Soldiers Field for the second meet of the Engineer's season. The individual star of the team is Captain A. D. Smith, who won both the 220-yard and 440-yard races against Maine last Saturday, and who will probably set Captain Burke a fast pace in the quarter mile. In the dashes, Heap and Porter are two of M. I. T.'s best men, while exclusive of Captain Smith, Bateman, Snow, and Makepeace are the fastest quartermilers. This trio, along with Captain Smith and Poor, are the outstanding performers in the 880-yard run. The men who have made the best time for Technology in the mile distance are Sanborn, Snow, and Bemis, while in the two mile event Hendrie and Sanborn will give the Crimson distance men the stiffest opposition. Among the hurdlers, Blodgett and Hershey seem to be the Engineers' most likely point winners.

Although Technology, is not as strong in the field events as on the track, there are some high class M. I. T. entrants in these contests. Greenough in the high jump and Stearns in the pole vault have been clearing some good heights, while in the broad jump Stewart and Heap have been showing up well. In the weight events Dexter and Drew have been making the longest heaves, while the discus throwing of Tryon and Caine, and Garrard's javelin work have been particularly promising.
