BROWN FRESHMAN NINE TOO STRONG FOR SECONDS

Superior Fielding Decisive Factor in Visitor's 9 to 3 Victory--Cordingley Scores Ten Strikeouts

Yesterday afternoon at Soldiers Field, the Brown Freshman baseball nine overcame the second team 9 to 3. The visitors got away for an early lead, which the second team was unable to overcome. Both sides registered 11 hits, but Brown made better use of its openings and found little trouble in running up its overwhelming total. Mann was the individual star of the contest, knocking out two singles and a triple.

In the first inning with two outs and a man on first, Cordingley struck out the batter, who, however, reached first when the catcher dropped the last strike. An error by Gibb filled the bases, and the next batter drove a hot liner to center field, scoring two men. A two bagger immediately afterwards brought in another run, but the rally was cut short a minute later when Harall filed out to the first baseman.

The Crimson came to bat determined to retrieve their poor showing in the field. Mann lifted the second ball pitched well over the left fielder's head and reached third before the ball was relayed in, scoring soon after on Heageney's sacrifice fly to right field. Two singles and a passed ball brought in another tally before the side was retired.

Another run in the second and two in the third, however, put the Freshmen out of danger.

The teams batted as follows:

Harvard Seconds.--Mann s.s., Heageney l.f., Lucas r.f., Kerr 1b., Stevens (Thomas) c.f., Gardner 3b., Hoffman c., Gibb (Chase) 2b., Cordingley p.

Brown Freshmen.--Turtle 2b., Rohip 3b., Dixon s.s., Lathrop c.f., Wilson r.f., Holden c., Marth 1b., Harall (Quill) l.f., Dansell p.
