FRESHMEN DOWN HOLY CROSS IN 14 INNINGS

Yesterday afternoon the Freshman baseball team battled its way to a 4 to 3 victory over the Holy Cross first year men in a fourteen inning game, Allen making the winning run for the Crimson in a single by McGlone.

Holy Cross started the scoring when Kieran, the visitors short stop, knocked out a long double, stole third on a passed ball, and finally reached home on a grounder to Slayton.

The Crimson evened the count in the last of the fourth, however. With two out, Field reached first on a ground ball which the third baseman failed to handle cleanly, stole second on the next ball pitched, and finally crossed the plate on Burton's hot liner to center field. Another rally was started in the next inning, again with two outs. After knocking out a clean single, McGlone stole second and third, and scored easily as result of Knowlton's single. The inning was brought to a close directly afterwards when the latter tried to repeat McGlone's stunt of stealing third. Another tally in the last of the eighth placed the Crimson in the lead. A single and two errors, however, gave Holy Cross the one run it needed to tie the score.

Thereafter the teams fought back and forth, with neither side showing a decided advantage. Once the visitors made a triple, but the runner was cut off at the plate when he tried to steal home. With two outs in the last of the four-oeth, however, McGlone's hit brought in the deciding run.
