The Freshman track team will be forced to the limit this afternoon when it meets the 1926 athletes from Yale on the Stadium track at 3.30 o'clock. So far the Crimson has suffered two defeats falling before Andover and Exeter. The Blue squad opened its spring season with a victory over Hill School and was barely nosed out by Princeton last Saturday 69 to 66. All the 1926 men entered in today's meet were given a complete rest yesterday after a week of intensive training and are in good shape for the trying test today.
The Yale squad of 39 competitors stopped at the Lenox last night and will drive out to Soldiers Field immediately after lunch today. After the meet the visitors will dine at Smith Halls and will return to New Haven on the 7.30 train.
On paper Yale has a decided advantage but the, Crimson is relying upon a majority of second and third places to make up for the faster times of the Blue athletes. In the dashes the visitors have a considerable advantage though Captain Allen, will run Norton a close race in the hundred. The 220-yard dash should bring Yale more than one place as Norton, Wood, and Adler managed to capture all three places from the Princeton first-year men. Wood, who won the 440 in 51 1-5 seconds against Princeton is the logical winner of that event today but he should be closely followed by Captain Allen and Brooks of the Freshman squad. The 1926 leader will also start the half-mile, and he and Tibbetts, another dependable Crimson hald miler, should divide the honors in this event.
In the mile the Crimson should be able to capture a first place, as Waters was clocked at 4 minutes 31 1-5 seconds, eight seconds under Scoville's winning mile against Princeton. Barker and Sweeney are the best two milers on the squad while Riggs is the strongest entry from New Haven.
In the field events the teams are pretty evenly matched, with Yale a favorite in the weights, and the Crimson with a slight advantage in the javelin throw.
