COLUMBIA NET-MEN THREATEN CRIMSON

The University net-men will encounter a strong obstacle to a 1923 clean tennis slate when it faces the strong Columbia team, which defeated Princeton by the close score of 5-4. Led by F. T. Anderson, former national indoor champion, this team has gained prominence by defeating Lehigh and Princeton and has been termed by many New York papers the best college team in many years.

Anderson by means of his work at the net and his smashing service has become a strong contender for the intercollegiate championship. He has not been defeated this season. Jerry Lang and Captain Gerald Emerson, number 2 and 3 men respectively, are well known in New York City, the former being number 15 in the New York City ranking of 1922 and is now playing a better game than ever.

If the record of past games determines the odds, Columbia is slightly favored, for Princeton defeated by Columbia, overcame Pennsylvania 9-0, whereas the University yielded two points to the Quakers, the match ending 7-2.

The singles matches will begin at 2.30 o'clock and the doubles at 3.20, or 4, depending on the time the singles, are finished. Coach Cowles will referee the first singles match, that between Ingraham '25 and Anderson, and the first doubles match, Ingraham and Duane vs. Lang and Emerson.

Singles.--At Divinity Courts at 2.30: Ingraham '25 vs. Anderson (C); Duane '23 vs. Lang (C); Guild '23 vs. Emerson (C); Briggs '25 vs. Marshall (C); Pfaffman '24 vs. Guiler (C); Bondi '25, vs. Weissberger (C).

Doubles: Ingraham and Duane vs. Lang and Emerson; Guild and Pfaffman vs. Anderson and Marshall; Briggs and Dixon '25 vs. Guiler and Weissberger.
