The competition for the two Sears Prizes of $100 and $25 will be held today in Sanders Theatre, from 10 to 12 o'clock in the morning. The judges, who have recently been selected, are Professor H. W. Holmes '03, Dean of the Graduate School of Education; Professor A. F. Payne of the University of Minnesota; and Professor G. H. Smith of the University of Oklahoma. The discussion, which is open to the public, will have for a subject "Do the Public Schools Really Educate the People?"
Mr. Richard Sears '91 has offered these prizes for the past two years, and intends to offer them yearly through 1925.
The competition is only open to those undergraduates who have already applied for admission to the contest. The time limit for each speech has been set at 30 minutes.
All the arrangements for the competition have been placed in the hands of Dean Holmes. A list of pertinent material has been sent to each of the contestants, and the Library of the Graduate School of Education has been placed at their disposal.
