8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
E. H. Lane '24, who captained the championship University fencing team this year, was yesterday reelected to lead the Crimson swordsmen next season. For the last two years, Lane has been one of the mainstays of the team in the foils, and placed third in the individual contests in the intercollegiate meet, in addition to contributing largely to the team's success. Richard Aley Durham '25, of Louisville, Kentucky, as a result of a competition during the season, has been selected to act as assistant manager next year.
The Colonel Robert Thompson memorial trophy, which the winning college at the intercollegiate championship holds and which is a bronze replica of the "Little Iron Man," will be exhibited beginning today in Leavitt and Peirce's window. At the meeting of the Intercollegiate Fencing Association after the tournament, Captain-elect Lane was chosen vice-president of that body for the 1923-24 season, and J. K. Watson '23, who was manager of this year's team, was appointed a member of the graduate committee to arrange for the next intercollegiate meeting.
All members of the University who have not fenced, in an intercollegiate meet will be eligible to compete in the novice tournament which will be held on Friday afternoon, instead of Wednesday as previously planned. The winner of this meet will be awarded a cup offered by the Harvard Fencers' Club, while to the man showing the best form, Coach Danguy will present a foil.
Several University swordsmen will compete Saturday night at the B. A. A. in the New England championships. These bouts decide the men from this section who will qualify for the national championship contests which will be held in New York on May 2 to 4.
