ADMIRAL W. S. BENSON TO TALK ON "AMERICAN NAVY"

TO TELL OF EXPERIENCES BEFORE AND IN WAR

"The American Navy" will be the title of a lecture which Admiral W. S. Benson will deliver in the Living Room of the Union tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock. The lecture will be open to Union members and their guests who are men not eligible to membership in the Union. It was announced that guest cards may be secured at the Manager's office before 5 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.

Admiral Benson will discuss the development of the navy, from the time of the wooden frigate to the modern dread-naught and submarine, describing, the various types of vessels. He will also relate some of his experiences before and during the war.

Graduated from Annapolis in 1877, Admiral Benson saw 47 years of active service before retiring in 1919. He was promoted to ensign in 1881 and from then until the outbreak of the war his promotion was steady. In 1915 he was made a rear-admiral and was appointed chief of naval operations. After his retirement in 1919 he was made chairman of the United States Shipping Board and in 1921 was appointed a commissioner on the Shipping Board by President Harding.
