A total of five matches has already been scheduled for the University pistol team according to an announcement made by the Department of Military Science. The competition for the championship of the R. O. T. C. Field Artillery Units representing about 20 colleges from all parts of the country will probably be completed by the team on May 11, after which a final triangular meet with Yale and Princeton is planned. Last year the University team defeated both of these teams in the last match.

The team will open its season this year on May 3 when it will shoot against Boston University and the Alabama Polytechnic Institute in two separate matches. On May 10, the West Point team, which defeated the Crimson last year, will again be its opponents. A match with the University of Wisconsin is also being scheduled for that date.

Pistol practice will begin for all students in the Military Science courses on April 23 and will be held four times a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. A first squad of experienced shooters will be picked during the first week, to start special preparation for the schedule of matches. Although three men of last year's team will be back, inexperienced men whose performances in the practice shoots are good, will be taken on the first squad. The first team will consist of five men.

According to the rules for pistol matches each member of the team will fire a total of 70 shots. The regulation target will be provided, each man using ten targets.

There will be three kinds of fire, slow, rapid, and quick. Slow fire, in which a contestant may take as much time as he wishes, will be at distances of 25 and 50 yards, seven shots being fired at each target.

The distances for rapid fire will be 15 and 25 yards, 15 seconds being allowed for seven shots at the first distance, and 20 seconds at 25 yards. Two targets of seven shots each will be used at each distance.

The quick fire shooting will be at 25 and 50 yards, also with two targets at each distance. The target will be a disappearing one, staying in sight for three seconds at the 25 yard range and for five seconds at the 50 yards.
