CREW MANAGEMENT ATTEMPTS TO BREAK UP ICE ON RIVER

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

An unsuccessful attempt to break up the ice which has been rapidly forming on the Charles River to the depth of about an inch and a half was made yesterday by the crew management. A battering ram in the shape of a plow was constructed out of heavy planking and was attached to the bow of one of the coaching launches, but the engine refused to start, due to some more ice in the gasoline feed line. Though baffled by the cold yesterday, the attempt to clear the river will be resumed this morning.
