CRIMSON CANDIDATES TO MEET IN SMITH HALLS

CANDIDATES WILL BEGIN WORK ON MARCH 28

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

CRIMSON competitions for the news and business departments open to the members of the Class of 1926 will start at a meeting in Standish Hall Common Room at 7 o'clock Tuesday evening. The President of the CRIMSON will speak at the meeting and the Managing Editor and Business Manager will explain the general details of the competitions in their respective departments. Attendance at the opening meeting will entail no obligation of any sort, and the meeting is intended for all men interested in college publication work, whether or not they plan to compete for the CRIMSON.

This is the last opportunity for members of the class of 1926 to make the CRIMSON board in their Freshman year. Men who wish to enter the competitions will start actual work on Wednesday when they will report at the Crimson Building. The competition for the news department will last eight weeks, three weeks less than the usual length of competitions in that department, thus giving the candidates opportunity to study for their final examinations after the end of the competition.

Business Competition to Last 10 Weeks

The Business competition will last only ten weeks and men will be given sufficient time off to study for finals. In neither of the departments will any work be required during the spring vacation.

The work of a news candidate is exacting, but also varied and interesting. Through the gathering of news, which forms a major part of his duties, he becomes acquainted with the organization and leaders of undergraduate activities. In securing interviews and special articles, he has an opportunity to meet prominent men connected with the University, visiting speakers, and others whose opinions may be of interest to University men. In the latter part of the competition candidates will be given an opportunity to learn the mechanical work of the paper serving as make-up men in the press room.

Business candidates, whose work consists chiefly of advertising, have an unusual opportunity to come into contact with the business men of Boston and the vicinity, and receive an exceptional training in business problems and methods of the present day.

Successful News candidates are eligible for the office of assistant managing editor, managing editor, and president, while the positions of assistant business manager, advertising manager, and business manager are open to the men who are retained in the Business department.
