Six new boxers became champions last night in the annual University boxing tournament at the Hemenway gymnasium, which took place before a crowd of 700 enthusiasts.
The feature of the evening was the remarkable boxing of C. S. Forsyth, who won the 115 and the 125-pound titles. Winning the first bout of the night, a semi-final against Milton Krook '25, he continued his brilliant work by defeating G. G. Tunell 1G, in a very fast bout in the 125-pound semi-final. He won the 115-pound final against G. F. Blair '26 when the referee stopped the bout in the first round, and in the next to last battle of the evening he beat J. M. Masters '25 in the three hardest rounds of the evening. Although he knocked Masters down in the second round with a terrific left to the jaw, the latter came back and made an unusually strong finish. In the third both men were groggy but Forsyth's slight superiority in aggressiveness gave him the judges' verdict.
H. J. Freedman '23, 125-pound champion in 1921, won the 135-pound title from Alexander Ulin '23 rather easily when the referee stopped the bout in the second round.
The 145-pound bout resulted in the only knock-out of the tournament. G. E. W. Davis 1G.B. won the title by putting C. G. Page 1L. out after a minute and a half of the first round.
After winning a very even and fast semi-final from H. L. Hartley '23, D. S. Muzzey Jr. '23 was no match for R. LeB. Daggett '23, twice 145-pound champion, who won the 158-pound title when the referee stopped the bout in the second.
The heavyweight championship was won by C. S. Payson 2L. in one of the best fights of the tournament. His greater height and reach gave him the decision over D. H. Courtney '24, although he was punished a good deal by the latter's hard body blows.
The results of the semi-finals at the beginning of the evening follow:
115-Pound Class.--C. S. Forsyth '26 defeated Milton Krook '25.
125-Pound Class.--J. M. Masters '25 defeated V. H. Kugell '25; C. S. Forsyth defeated G. G. Tunell Jr. 1G.
135-Pound Class.--Alexander Ulin '23 defeated W. H. Lewis 1M.
145-Pound Class.--G. E. W. Davis 1G.B. defeated A. D. Hoffman '25; C. G. Page 1L. defeated G. M. Ferguson '26.
158-Pound Class.--D. S. Muzzey Jr. '23 defeated H. L. Hartley '23.
