ADVERTISING TALK TO DEAL WITH TYPOGRAPHY

Mr. W. A. Dwiggins Will Speak at 8 o'Clock This Evening in Crimson Sanctum--Second Lecture of Series--Open to All University Members

The second of a series of talks on advertising held under the auspices of the CRIMSON and the Lampoon will be given in the CRIMSON Sanctum at 8 o'clock this evening by Mr. W. A. Dwiggins, on the subject of "Advertising Typography". The speaker will illustrate his talk with actual demonstrations of the use of type, and will use charcoal and a large drawing board for his demonstrations. This meeting is open to all members of the University.

Mr. Dwiggins, one of the foremost American book designers, studied art in Chicago and began his career by specializing in lettering and ornament, later working in illustration and finally in typography. For one year he was in charge of a division of a course in the technique of printing in the University.

The keynote of Mr. Dwiggins' talk was struck in the first lecture of the series by Mr. R. S. Durstine, who stated that one of the most undeveloped fields for newcomers in the advertising business is that of the proper use of type. The strength of the most convincing and persuasive advertising message may be entirely destroyed by unwise typography, he said, and it is of the utmost importance to the success of an advertisement that it be made readable.

The entire series is under the direction of Mr. P. M. Hollister '13, a member of the firm of Barton, Durstine, and Osborn.
