SPRINGFIELD SCHOOL WINS P. B. K. SCHOLARSHIP TROPHY

But Private Schools Turn Out Largest Number of Honor Students

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Springfield Central High School of Springfield has won this year for the fourth time the Interscholastic Scholarship Trophy, which the University chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa annually awards to the preparatory school whose students make the best average record in the examinations for admission to the college.

Under the conditions made when the trophy was first awarded in 1915 it goes permanently to the school which, at the end of ten years, has won it most often during that period. Since Springfield's closest competitor, Hotchkiss, last year's winner, has received the trophy only twice, no matter who receives it next year, it will become the permanent property of the Springfield school.

Of the 63 men on this year's honor list, all of whom obtained an average of B or better, 35 entered the University from private schools and 28 from public schools. Divided geographically. 47 men made their final preparation in New England schools, and the other 16 outside New England.
