In this year's triangular debates with Yale and Princeton, the work of the individual speakers will have more weight in the decision than the merits of the case itself. This announcement was made last night at the conclusion of the annual triangular debate conference at New Haven. Philip Walker '25, and F. E. Bowman '24 were the University delegates.
The adoption of this ruling, in accordance with a proposal by Princeton, means a reversal of the University's past debating policy, which aimed, above all, at the presentation of a highly perfected and logically complete case. It will have the merit, it is expected, of developing in speakers platform ability of the type shown by the Oxford debaters, as well as the powers of logic which the American system produces.
