In the golden days of school-time there was a kind of immortal hero, who dealt in great feats of strength and who was the captain of the school football team. At some colleges the same mountain-of strength hero still exists. But at the University a football player is not made captain on strength alone. By tradition which has developed through many years the captain of a Harvard football team must have remarkable athletic ability and also the kind of character which makes for inspired leadership, both in victory and in defeat, not only on the football team but in the college at large.
In all respects Captain Hubbard measured up to this great tradition. He has left a place difficult to fill. But Captain-elect Greenough is a worthy successor; we join in congratulating him and in wishing him all success in 1924.
