New Haven, Conn., December 12.--The Yale hockey team opened its season at the Arena tonight by defeating the St. Nicholas Club of New York by a score of 6 to 5.

The game was closely contested throughout, the University team winning only by a spirited rally at the close. This victory raises considerably the prospects for a successful hockey season at New Haven, for St. Nicholas is rated as one of the strongest among the Eastern League teams.
