The University Glee Club will give the first of its series of three Symphony Hall concerts this evening at 8 o'clock.
The children's concert, which the Glee Club gave in collaboration with the Symphony Orchestra on Monday, was well received. A new type of song was tried of which the audience heartily approved. Choral music, which college glee clubs have never dared to attempt before, was boldly presented and well received. The child audience was deeply impressed with the churchly music of Lotti and Vittoria, laughed at the folktunes and light songs, and eagerly applauded the finale from "The Gondoliers."
Tonight the program will be somewhat similar to that of the concert on Monday. About 150 men will offer a varied selection of anthems, Christmas carols, and folk songs. Dr. A. T. Davison '06, director of the club, will conduct the singers.
Mme. Sigrid Onegin, contralto of the Metropolitan Opera Co., will assist the Glee Club. Her program includes Hugo Wolf's "Epiphanias" (Epiphany) which will be the first time that this song has been offered in America. Mme. Onegin has already given one concert in Boston, and the generous way in which she has been received during the past two years gives evidence of her immense popularity.
