"Self content and self complacency show a lack of human nobility," said the Right Reverend Nathan Soderblom, Archbishop of Upsala, and Primate of Sweden in his sermon at Appleton Chapel yesterday morning.
"Man must forget himself for an ideal," he continued. "Perfection is not a negative sinlessness; it does not mean solely an absence of faults, but the presence of the positive ideal of brotherhood and truth.
"If we should keep that ideal, there would be less pain in the hearts of men and less starvation, misery and humiliation among nations. Not till then will we be free from the hell of injustice and suffering now ravaging our western civilization."
"The archbishop, who is visiting Cambridge as the guest of the University will conduct the morning services at Appleton Chapel for the first part of the week. Tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock he will speak in the New Lecture Hall on "The Scholar, the Ascetic and the Hero in Religion."
