Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
Following its meeting last night the Athletic Committee failed to announce its expected decision in regard to the track coach situation. Both Dean Briggs, chairman of the committee, and Major F. W. Moore, Graduate Treasurer, refused to comment on the subject further than to say that the matter was still undecided and that the committee had no statement to make.
It was expected that some definite announcement would be given out last evening, stating definitely whether Coach Marin would return or not, but the coach himself, after his session with the committee, joined that body in refusing to comment on the situation. Indications are that new developments will turn up either today or tomorrow, but whether or not they will include Coach Martin's resignation is still a matter of doubt.
In view of the recent trouble it seems unlikely that Martin will return although he has completed only four months of his four-year contract. Whether the Track Advisory Committee's report favored his return is still a mystery but recent statements would seem to indicate such was not the case.
As far as could be gathered last evening the Athletic Committee has given no thought as yet to the question of choosing a successor to Martin in case the latter decides to leave. Field Coach Farell's name was widely mentioned for the position when the recent friction first developed, but there are no indications as yet that he would be the choice of the Track Advisory Committee or of the Athletic Committee itself.
