Today's issue marks the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the CRIMSON, which in 1873 was known as "The Magenta", a fortnightly started by ten men of the class of 1874.
The first number of "The Magenta" was of twelve pages, 8 by 12 inches, and contained seven short editorials and a number of literary articles and poems. Among the literary articles was one on "A College Character" and another on "Duns." All the news of the first issue was crowded into a short department known as "Brevities", while books and plays were reviewed in other sections of the paper.
