In the longest match that has ever been played at the University Squash Racquets Building, W. P. Dixon '25 defeated F. I. Carpenter '24, 15-10, 11-15, 15-13, 11-15, 15-7 yesterday afternoon and earned the right to meet E. M. Hinkle '23 in the finals of the College tournament. The match lasted for an hour and thirty-five minutes, some. rallies lasting even five or six minutes. Both men were "masters of getting" and every point was closely fought for. Carpenter showed by far the best squash he has played this year, losing all the nervousness that has marked his club matches during the past season. Dixon seemed to have lost the ability to kill the ball, being compelled to allow Carpenter to wear himself out.
Dixon Wins First Game
Both men started off at a very fast pace in the opening game trying for "kills" an every shot. Dixon jumped into the lead at the start was never headed, winning 15-10. After the first game, both men seemed to tire, and tried to win on their opponent's errors.
The fourth game produced the best squash of the afternoon. Dixon was hitting the ball harder and placing better but Carpenter was placing his shots with a remarkable degree of accuracy and winning 15-11. With the score two all, it looked as if Carpenter would continue his fine playing and win. For the first five points of the last game they were both even. then, Carpenter's backhand which Dixon had been playing all evening seemed to fail him and he fell behind, Dixon running out the game and match 15-7.
