The University basketball team forced Williams to the small end of a 46 to 28 score last Saturday night in Williamstown. In spite of the loss of McLeish and the small court, the Crimson team played brilliantly in the fastest game so far this season. Captain Blackmer starred for the Purple, shooting five baskets and six fouls in an uphill fight.
The Williams quintet started off with a rush and led the Crimson through the greater part of the first half when Captain Gordon smashed through the defence sending the University into the lead. The score at the end of the half was 20-11 with Coach Wachter's men leading.
Captain Gordon was the outstanding figure of the game, playing the best brand of basketball he has exhibited on University teams. His passing was accurate and he had a dead eye for the basket. The support from his team-mates was excellent and their rapid short passes often counted for the Crimson. The game was cleanly played and hard fought throughout by both teams.
The summary: Score, University 46, Williams 28. Goals from floor, Gordon 8, Lowenthal 7, Samborski 3, Miller 2, Fiering 2, Black, Blackmer 5, Wightman 2, Brown 2, Fisher, Pease. Goals from free tries, Gordon 2, Blackmer 6. Referee, Young. Time 20-minute halves.
