Fall crew work got under way late yesterday afternoon when the men chosen for the first two University eights reported to Dr. Howe and Coach F. J. Muller for the season's initial work-out on the Charles.
Following a brief preliminary talk in which plans for the autumn were presented in some detail, Coach Muller sent his two crews out for a short spin and followed the shells down-stream in the coaching launch. Nothing of a strenuous nature was attempted, the main emphasis being placed on balance and getting the men accustomed to the new combination. The seating was as follows:-
Crew A.--Bow, B. F. Rice-Bassett; 2, N. C. Webb '23; 3, B. McK. Henry '24; 4, A. H. Ladd Jr. '23; 5, R. C. Storey Jr. '24; 6, H. S. Morgan '23; 7, S. B. Kelley '25; stroke, Walter Amory '24; cox., S. C. Badger '23.
Crew B.--Bow, W. M. Fairleigh '25; 2, B. R. Wiesman '25; 3, C. H. Hollister Jr. '24; 4, J. D. Jameson '24; 5, H. H. Fuller Jr. '23; 6, Francis Fiske '23; 7, M. W. McGreevy '24; stroke, S. N. Brown '24; cox., B. H. Burnham '24.
Rowing for the majority of upperclassmen will start this afternoon at 5.15 o'clock when candidates for the class crews report at Newell boathouse. Coach E. J. Brown '96 will again have charge of these men, while Coach William Haines is to supervise the work of the 150-pound eights.
Tomorrow afternoon at 5.30 o'clock will mark the opening of the Freshman season when a meeting of all candidates will be held in Smith Halls Common Room. Coach H. H. Haines is in charge of the yearling squad which will row from the Weld boathouse.
