Phillips proved strongest on the greens and at approach shots, where his accuracy was superior to that of his opponent. At the end of the first 18 holes, played in the morning, he was ahead 6 up, and though showed some brilliant work in the afternoon, turning "eagles" on the twenty-fourth and holes, his game proved and he was unable to overcome his rival's lead.

The tournament in which Phillips has just won the title was the first held under the suspices of the newly organized Golf Association. Its success has proved encouraging and it is expected that a series of tournaments, one in the fall and one in the spring, will be held each year in the future. The fall tournament for 1922 will start some time in October.
