Professor A. B. Hart '80 Says America Has Territorial and Racial Marks of Empire--Lecture Completes Radcliffe Endowment Fund Series

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Professor A. B. Hart '80 delivered the last of the series of lectures for the Radcliffe Endowment Fund yesterday afternoon. His subject was "The American Empire".

"Imperial", said Professor Hart, "is the last adjective we think of applying to America. It is inconsistent with our democracy; for the word empire conveys the idea of numerous subject races bound together by a superior government".

"The United States", Professor Hart explained, "is an empire in extent of territory, natural resources, and diversity of races. We have all the marks of empire in its strictest sense.

"We cannot", said Professor Hart, "hold ourselves aloof from European affairs. The time, will come when the United States will sympathize and unite with her sister empire in Europe to solve common problems".
