FRESHMEN SUCCUMB TO COMBINATION QUINTET

Team Made Up of Coaches and University Players Put It Over on 1925, 38-35--Yearlings to Play Springfield College Freshmen Tomorrow

A stiff, 40-minute scrimmage was in order for the 1925 basketball squad yesterday afternoon at the Freshman Athletic Building in preparation for the Springfield College Freshman game tomorrow.

With Coaches Wachter and Tolbert in the line-up against them, in addition to several men from the University squad, the yearlings were hard pressed to hold their own, and although displaying a perceptible improvement over their work last week, failed to keep pace with their more seasoned opponents, the latter winning 38-35.

Though behind in point of score, there was every indication in the yearlings' play of a marked advance, especially along offensive lines. Yesterday's game was preceded by a brisk phantom practice in which Coach Tolbert worked to eradicate the weaknesses evidenced in the New Hampshire State Freshman clash on January 28. Special emphasis was placed on passes, both short and long for in their last contest the yearlings displayed a tendency to be slow and erratic in this particular.

The only change in the 1925 line-up was the shifting of W. T. Heagney to right forward in place of Merriam. The substitution is not necessarily permanent as Coach Tolbert has not yet decided on the team which is to face Springfield tomorrow.
