HOCKEY SEXTET DEFEATS MELROSE

The University hockey team defeated the Melrose sextet by a slight margin yesterday afternoon in a stiff scrimmage at the Arena. This work-out was the final preparation for the game with the powerful Westminster aggregation which will meet the Crimson for the first time this season on Monday. Twice the B. A. A. has suffered defeat at their hands, and M. I. T. was forced to bow to the speedy Westminster skaters, so the University combination will have to repeat its flawless playing of Tuesday it its opponents are to be held in check.

The scrimmage yesterday showed a steady offence which kept the Melrose skaters well on to their own ice through most of the game, but at times the latter were able to repulse the attack with some speedy individual thrusts from the Melrose wings. Their success in keeping down the Crimson's score, however, was due not to these occasional counter offensives but to the excellent defensive play they exhibited when pressed by the University skaters.

Melrose's only tally came when they pushed themselves from this defensive position and brought the puck to the Crimson's territory before the University skaters had sufficiently organized their defence to cover the attack.

Martin was out of the line-up with a cold, but it in expected that he will be able to start on Monday. If, however, he is unable to report Larocque will probably fill his berth at center, where he displayed some valuable work in yesterday's scrimmage.
