STANDISH STILL LEADS INTERDORMITORY SERIES

Hockey Already Completed and Other Winter Sports Are Well Under Way--Popularity of Basketball Necessitates Two Divisions

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

According to a statement issued by the Physical Training Department yesterday afternoon, the Freshman Interdormitory winter series is rapidly nearing the close. Hockey is already finished, but basketball and indoor baseball, together with the interdormitory squash tournament which is now under way, still remain, the final contests in the former two being scheduled for the latter part of March.

The finals in the hockey series took place on February 14, when Standish won an easy victory over the Smith team, thereby clinching the championship. The first game was the only set-back received by the victors throughout the entire schedule, when Smith administered at 3-0 defeat, but since then it has been a matter of four straight wins, giving them a clear claim to the lead. Smith, while enjoying an early season advantage, lapsed finally into a somewhat checkered record and finished in second place. Not once did Gore find itself in the running, its lone victory being the result of a close decision over Smith early in the season.

The Standish victory gives that hall five points towards the interdormitory winter athletic shield, while Smith as runner-up receives three, and Gore one. When complete returns are in the numeral men from each ball will be added up and according to each dormitory's representation points for first, second, and third place will be awarded.

Fourteen contests have taken place between the three dormitories in the indoor baseball series. Standish again leads the list with ten victories and four defeats, Gore following with practically an even balance.

Two Basketball Series

So popular has basketball proved this winter that it was found necessary to split the squad of 50 players into two divisions. This system has proved most satisfactory, the two tournaments working entirely independently of each other and credit towards the shield being counted for both teams. In section one Standish again, by scoring four wins to only one set-back, has clinched the title for top place to date. Gore has improved its position materially since the mid-year standing was announced, and now holds second, with Smith following a poor third. Gore leads the second section with a record of four victories and one defeat.

As a result of the challenge system established during the mid-year period, the personnel of the interdormitory squash teams has changed materially. The teams as they now stand are permanent and members are no longer subject to challenge from men not on the teams.

The final standing of the dormitories in hockey, and the standing to date in the other sports follows:   Hockey   Won  Lost  Pct. Standish  4  1  .800 Smith  2  3  .400 Gore  1  3  .250 Indoor Baseball   Won  Lost  Pct. Standish  10  4  .714 Gore  7  6  .538 Smith  3  10  .230 Basketball--Section 1   Won  Lost  Pct. Standish  4  1  .800 Gore  2  3  .400 Smith  1  3  .250 Basketball--Section 2   Won  Lost  Pct. Gore  4  1  .600 Standish  3  2  .600 Smith  0  4  .000
