R. I. STATE FIVE OPPOSES CRIMSON

With a line-up containing probably only two regulars, Coach Wachter's quintet will face one of the hardest games of the season this evening when they meet Rhode Island State at the Hemenway Gymnasium at 8 o'clock. Since the visiting team has suffered three defeats to two victories while the Crimson has bowed but five times in 17 contests, the University quintet should have a slight edge in spite of the substitute line-up. The game will be preceded by a contest between the yearling five and the M. I. T. Freshmen which will start at 7 o'clock.

It is problematical first what players Coach Wachter will be able to start, since Gordon, Black and in all probability Fitts will be unable to play. The first two are out with slight cases of grippe and will not be in shape again for several days while Fitts pulled a tendon just before the Williams contest last Thursday and while he may get in at some time during the game will be unable to go the whole time.

Owing to the exceptionally strong group of second string players in the squad this year, however, Coach Wachter will be able to start a team almost as strong as the regular five, with Lowenthal and Captain McLeish at forward, Tyson at center, and Miller and Rudof sky at guard. Starting for Gordon last Tuesday, Lowenthal played a stellar game against Williams, scoring five baskets from the floor and making a strong bid for a permanent first team berth. Tyson, Sipp, and Love have all been staging a strong fight for the center position during the entire season but the first named seems to have the edge at present and should put up a strong game while Miller has been sent in at guard in the second half of nearly every contest so far.

Prominent in the Rhode Island State schedule have been two games with the Connecticut Aggies, both defeats, the Rhode Islanders yielding 17-39 in the first contest and 18-41 in the second. In the opening session this season, the Aggies downed the University 33-30 but the Crimson has developed so rapidly since that time that no comparison can be made on this basis.

Northeastern whose team Harvard defeated 41-22 in the third game of the year yielded 44-25 to the Providence team which also gained a 30-25 victory from St. Michaels, Tufts, however, conquered the Rhode Island quintet 35-28.

Two more doubles handball court have been added to the equipment at the Hemenway Gymnasium.
