UNIVERSITY CREWS START ACTUAL WORK OF 1922 SEASON TODAY

EARLY SEASON SCHEDULE GOES INTO EFFECT

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The actual work of the 1922 crew season will begin this afternoon for both University and Freshman squads. Today for the first time the schedule which Dr. Howe has devised for the early part of the season will be put into effect. This program will differ from previous schedules in several respects.

This year both squads will be divided into two classes, experienced and inexperienced men. The definitions of the four classes are as follows:

1. Experienced University Men.--"Those who have rowed at college for one year or more."

2. Inexperienced University Men.--"Those who have rowed at college for less than one year."

3. Experienced Freshmen.--"Those who have rowed two or more years at a rowing preparatory school."

4. Inexperienced Freshmen.--"Those who have rowed but one year at school, or last autumn, or never before."

Another feature of this year's program is the coaching of Freshmen by experienced University men. This will also start today when three groups of 20 University men will coach the yearlings.

Thirty men reported at Newell Boathouse Friday afternoon for the optional coaching offered by the coaches on the fundamentals of the stroke.
