LIBERAL CLUB PLANS DISCUSSION MEETINGS

Speakers Include President Eliot and President Neilson of Smith--Executive Committee Adopts Plan of Admitting Associate Members

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Student Liberal Club has arranged two luncheons, an informal supper and a talk, probably in the Union, as meetings for discussion on "The Function of the University," the first of which is to be held at the club rooms on Saturday, and will be attended by President Eliot, who will talk on the subject. On Tuesday, February 28, the second luncheon will be held in honor of President W. A. Neilson '96 of Smith College, whose talk will be followed by a general discussion. Besides the above meetings the club has scheduled a supper discussion on Tuesday, February 21, to hear an informal speech by Mr. W. E. B. DuBois '90, editor of "The Crisis," and author of "Darkwater". He will speak on "The Negro Faces America". The final discussion of the recently announced schedule will be a meeting probably at the Union on March 23, featured by a talk by Mr. Sherwood Eddy, the Assistant General Secretary of the national Y. M. C. A's.

Discussion invited by Non-Members

The Executive Committee of the club has adopted a new policy in order to give all students of the University a chance to participate in the general discussions without necessitating election. In the future any men in the University may pay two dollars and become associate members, a position which allows them to attend meetings but which does not give them the privilege of the use of the clubhouse. Regular members will be selected from among the associate members who show themselves to be most interested in the work of the club.

In making this announcement, the Executive Committee of the Liberal Club has issued the following statement:

"The Student Liberal Club has two purposes--to direct the attention of the University by discussions and lectures to public questions, and to create a group of men who are interested in the problems of the community.

"Because American college students do not share the sufferings of their fellow students in Europe it is incumbent on them to study the causes of the present disorder and prevent its recurrence. The Liberal Club invites to associate membership all those students who believe that the right of being a college student carries with it the obligation of service."
