SOCCER PLAYERS BOW TO QUAKERS IN FINAL GAME

In the last game of the University soccer season Saturday, the Crimson eleven suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the superior University of Pennsylvania team at Franklin Field, Philadelphia. Though the University players were on the defensive most of the time, the game was by no means one-sided, Penn being frequently threatened. Poor shooting lost the Crimson its opportunities to score.

Play was rapid from the start. Early in the first half, Linglebach received the ball on a pass from Captain Amelia, and scored on a clever 20-foot shot. A few minutes later a pretty pass, Blair to Partridge, nearly resulted in a tally, but the ball was blocked by Bondi. With about ten minutes to play Wale was knocked out in a stiff scrimmage. He resumed play after time out. Coach Welch sent in Hartley for Sullivan, shifting the latter to Furber's position at right halfback. Blair then scored from a scrimmage in front of the goal, and the half ended with the score standing 2-0.

Byington Enters Contest for Crimson

A number of substitutions were made between the halves. Dorman was shifted to inside right, his place at outside right being filled by Byington. Coach Stewart of Penn substituted Beard for Downes.

Ten minutes after the beginning of the half, Penn carried the ball down the field, but Nolte missed a long shot and failed to score. A Crimson rally carried the ball deep into the Quaker territory, but Penn again advanced, and Partridge tallied, making the final score 3-0.
