Fifty Experienced Mat-Men at Opening of University Session--Captain Freedman Stresses Importance of Substitute Material

The University wrestling season opened yesterday with a meeting of all candidates for the team in the Freshman Athletic Building. About fifty men in all, most of them veterans of last year's University and Freshman squads, reported for practice. Coach Judson spoke briefly on training, and Captain H. J. Freedman '23 outlined the plans for the season and the work that will be done in the period of training before Christmas. He stressed the fact that regular practice was essential not only for squad. A men but for the lower squads as well, and that it was because of the lack of second squad material at the end of the season that a University wrestling team has never beaten Yale.

It has been announced that more candidates for second assistant manager are needed. Anyone wishing to join the competition may do so this afternoon or tomorrow by reporting to the manager at the wrestling room in the Freshman Athletic Building. Men joining late will be under no disadvantage.
